Where to shop in booming Bonavista, Newfoundland

Shelley Cameron-McCarron Publishing date: Jan 17, 2020

Beautiful weaved design by shop owner Morgaine Parnham and a curated market of fine handmade goods, 90 per cent of which are created in Newfoundland, and the rest from other parts of Atlantic Canada, fill Tree Line Fine Art and Craft in Bonavista.

I’ve always been a bit besotted with Bonavista, Newfoundland—ever since my family stayed in a coastal, 19th-century former fisherman’s home, counting icebergs from the window, and making twilight trips to see puffins. With its natural beauty, centuries-long rich history, and easy access to adventure, there’s a magic to the town, a creative hub located on the Bonavista Peninsula, just a 3.5-hour drive from provincial capital St. John’s. With stunning ocean views, fantastic hiking, the chance to see whales, top-notch culinary experiences, a thriving musical and drama scene, and sweet choices for accommodations, it certainly ticks the boxes for a great getaway. Plus, there’s an ever-growing number of makers opening their own unique shops.
