Located on the corner of Roper Street and Ayles’ Lane, alongside the Coaker Canal, the Frederick Mouland house is situated within the historic Bonavista neighbourhood of Mockbeggar. This neighbourhood was a settled part of Bonavista since the 1600s and some of the homes in the area can be dated back to the 1700s.

Frederick Mouland (1887 – 1965) was a well-established fisherman in the community and built his home around the time of his marriage to Beatrice Whiffen (1889 -1981) in 1911. He lived in the home with his seven children; Leonard James, Mary Janes, Lucy Gladys, Sadie, Chesley Bramwell, Reginald Douglas and  Olive.

When Bonavista Living purchased the home in 2015 it was in very poor condition listing severely on one side as the foundation had given out on one corner of the house sinking into the peat moss below. Once this turn of the century home is fully restored it will feature traditional two over two windows with wide window casings, significant rain caps with dental mouldings and decorative brackets. An original feature that will be reinstated on the gable ends of this home is a third-floor attic window with the Bonavista roundel. This architectural feature is unique to Bonavista and can be seen on many historical properties built by the Strathie firm. During the restoration process, the side porch that was added in the 1970s was demolished. In its place, an original style porch with a shed roof will be reconstructed.
